Our story

It started with a too-good banana bread.

Mississippi Makes started in a Mississippi kitchen with two pans of banana bread and a casserole dish of well-intentioned gifts. Friends kept asking where the next batch was coming from. Then neighbors. Then people we'd never met.

When we settled in Fayetteville, those family recipes came with us — a recipe box that crossed state lines, full of cards written in grandmother's handwriting. That's the Mississippi in Mississippi Makes: the recipes, the roots, the insistence that butter should be browned. The kitchen and the pickup window are proudly Arkansas.

Everything is baked from scratch — stone-ground flour, local eggs, real vanilla, wildflower honey from the Delta. Small batches, made early, picked up warm.

Behind the scenes

A bake day, start to finish

No commissary, no freezer full of "product." Just one kitchen, one baker, and a schedule written in flour.

  1. 5:00 am

    The oven goes on

First thing: the sourdough that's been cold-fermenting since yesterday, and the brown butter for today's cookies.

  2. 7:30 am

    Muffins, out of the pan

Blueberry, apple cinnamon, banana walnut — portioned by hand, never scooped from a bucket.

  3. 10:00 am

    Boxes get packed

Each order is boxed, labeled, and checked twice against the ticket. Warm things go in last.

  4. Pickup windows

    The window opens

You give us your order number, we hand you a warm paper bag. The best 30 seconds of the transaction.

What we care about

The kitchen rules

Real ingredients

If we can't pronounce it or we wouldn't serve it at our own table, it doesn't go in the pan.

Small batches, always

We bake to order, not to stock. What's in your pickup window was made this week, not last month.

Made to be shared

Whole cakes for occasions, single muffins for Tuesday. Either way, it was made for someone.

Taste for yourself.
